Some places are just magical, and Lulu’s is one of them. When you walk
in the door, you know immediately that there is something special about this place. The walls are hung with portraits of musical greats, the tables and chairs don’t match, and there are barely a dozen of them. The ceiling is open, but the lighting has been carefully arranged. If the weather is right, you can sit
on the covered patio, and if you are fortunate enough to visit on a Sunday, there is live music. There is something haphazard but comfortable about Lulu’s, and that seems to be a well-laid, and executed, plan.
You’ll also notice the waitstaff talking to customers as old friends, that is
always a good sign. You can’t be in this restaurant long before chef-owner- proprietor Nancy Moynan comes out of the kitchen to check on her guests. If you get a chance to talk to her,
make sure to ask about her years at Commander’s Palace in New Orleans, arguably one of the most well known restaurants in the South.
Lulu’s is a great place for breakfast
or lunch any day, but there is a Sunday menu that is pretty special. Ask the waitstaff what the most popular choices are (it’s always a smart thing to do on your first visit to a restaurant), and
the answer will be “everything!” The Sunday menu has only seven choices, but they are so well thought out, you
