The City launched its new bike-sharing program this summer. Three bike-sharing stations are located across the city, one at the Jolly McCarty Historic Train Depot, Beach Park and IG Levy Park. The new program is a partnership between the
city and the national bike-sharing firm, Zagster. To enjoy the service, users will download the Zagster mobile app, choose the Pascagoula location and receive a code to check out a bicycle that has a u-lock, a basket, and front and rear lights for safe riding. Once the ride is complete, the user returns the bicycle to any of the locations, and ends the ride on the app.
Another of the city’s treasures is Lighthouse Park, named after the Round Island Lighthouse. The Park is located on the east bank of the Pascagoula River, the largest free flowing river in the lower 48 states, and has two boat launches, a fishing
pier with cleaning station, a pavilion, a restroom, and parking. It is also home to the home of the Pascagoula River Paddle Battle and Kayak Race, the Community Oak, the Round Island Lighthouse, and the Pascagoula River Environmental Trail, which consists of a small river-themed playground, nature overlook, outdoor classroom, educational signage, water fountains, and bicycle parking.
“Pascagoula’s Mayor and Council is committed to moving the city forward,” Nettles added. “They are working hard with staff to bring fresh, innovative ideas to Pascagoula. It’s a team effort. We Are Pascagoula and we want our residents to be Pascagoula Proud.”
