GETTING ACTIVE IN PASCAGOULA
J immy Krebs practically lives outdoors. Whether
it’s running, biking, or kayaking, he’s always doing something outside. In the last few months, he’s noticed
a lot more people joining him.
“People have discovered that they can get out, whether it’s
walking or biking or just getting out with the family. They have rediscovered that there are things they can do that don’t lead to a big expense and it’s recreation, so it’s refreshing for them,” Krebs said.
In Pascagoula there is no shortage of options for outdoor recreation. Do you like to bike? Consider riding along the Historic Pascagoula Bike Trail that runs from Pine Street Park, south to the beach, and goes east all the way to Wiggins Bayou. You can go with a group of people who ride the route the second Saturday of every month.
Do you like to jog? You can a run along the waterfront at the beach or use the half mile trail at Pat Wilson Jogging Park that’s equipped with an exercise station. You can even join a group that meets at the Jury Room at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday to run and walk together.
And we can’t forget access to the water. Pascagoula is surrounded by it.
“You probably have more boat launches here than you do any place up and down the Coast. People come from Alabama to launch their boats here because it’s a quick trip out to the islands or out to deeper water,” said Mayor Steve Demetropoulos.
You don’t have to have a boat to enjoy the water either. The Pascagoula River and various bayous are perfect places to explore in a kayak or canoe.
No matter how you choose to spend your time outside,
