meal with a few small plates, add a cup of gumbo or the simply amazing spicy and hearty turtle soup, and you will be a very happy foodie indeed.
There are plenty of entrees to choose from, all the classics are there: etouffee, jambalaya, a seafood platter, grilled red fish, and boiled royal reds as well. I sampled most of them and they were absolutely great.
The real measure of a restaurant that claims to be featuring Gulf Coast food is the po-boy test. Felix’s has more than a dozen choices, and I like the shrimp and oyster combo that is the Felix’s special. But check out the roast beef (get the paper towels ready) as well. Po-boys have been around since 1920, and although I’m sure the cheeseburger version is new, it’s my favorite.
Felix’s also has a 10 for $10 menu that is spot on and a great brunch menu that includes shrimp and grits and eggs Benedict, my all time favorite.
Whatever your tastes, whatever your mood, Felix’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar is a pretty cool place to hang out and pass a hot summer’s day.
