This year’s Steak & Stake Dinner on July 27 will be
an exciting night for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast. Their biggest fundraiser of the year, it will feature special guests Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts and stage and screen star Courtney B. Vance. The event takes place at the IP Casino Resort Spa from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $100 and sponsorships are still available.
“Proceeds from the event allow us to continue great work with the thousands of children and families who count on us every day,” Executive Director Keva Scott said. “Supporting Steak & Stake will help open the door to a better future for a child.”
The theme of this year’s event is Blues & Bling celebrating the rich culture of Blues Music. Attire is Coast Casual with attendees encouraged to wear their favorite blue items and a little bling.
Courtney B. Vance won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2016 for his portrayal of Johnnie Cochran in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson and three Tony Awards for his work on Broadway. He is also known for his roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Dangerous Minds, and The Preacher’s Wife. He grew up attending the Boys & Girls Clubs in Detroit and was recently inducted into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Alumni Hall of Fame.

Mississippi Centers for Autism and Related Developmental Disabilities (MCARDD) will host its All White Affair in Support of Autism Awareness on July 28 beginning at 7 p.m. The event will take place at Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort’s The Strand and will include entertainment by Unfazed Show & Band, heavy hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and silent auction.
The purpose of the event is to raise funds that will help the organization spread Autism awareness.
“We hope to be able to expand our reach, using the funds to support our programs and grow our team
by hiring additional therapists,” said Terra Dickey, MCARDD board member and fundraising and special projects chairperson. “With the community’s support we will be able to purchase invaluable supplies and facilitate our programs. Through these programs we are able to spread Autism awareness, offer parent
and sibling support groups and educate teachers, law enforcement, and other community members on how to properly handle children across the Autism spectrum.”
Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance on the MCARDD website for $40, or at the door for $50. Casual white attire is appreciated but not required.
