detail. If you want to start with an appetizer, I’d recommend the stuffed peppers. They are Jalapenos cut in half, stuffed with cream cheese, battered and deep fried. The result is a crispy coating and a hot and gooey inside. Another small plate that was recommended was the cheese sticks and the cheese dip. Give them all a try for a great introduction.
Pollo Feliz was a unanimous recommendation.
It’s a chicken breast grilled with pineapple, served with their famous cheese dip, and the ubiquitous rice and beans. The Chicken Quesadilla Dinner was also a top choice, and while it’s a pretty common offering, La Chula does a bang-up job with it. Another simple choice, but one that was pretty darn good, was the two tacos with sides of rice and beans. And for just $6.00 it seems quite a good deal.
I settled on the Big Burrito, as it was another one of the top suggestions, and it made for a great, and huge, lunch. It comes stuffed with beef or chicken and was made even more delicious by being
topped with chile con carne and cheese dip. The combination of chile and cheese dip is certainly
not a classic Mexican idea, but it does appeal to American sensibilities. Make sure to have a handful of napkins available with this dish.
Social media rates La Chula highly, and if it’s classic American-style Mexican you want, you’ll rate it highly too. Expect good service and hearty and plentiful food at a reasonable price. Next time you are in the Bay, check this place out.
