Courses offered at the center range from public speaking to college algebra and even art appreciation, and are rotated each semester to ensure students have the opportunity
to take core classes and electives. MGCCC
also participates in community outreach events on the base, including briefings for
new personnel, informational sessions and education fairs. All classes offered through
the college are fully accredited and easily transferrable to meet the needs of the military population.
In addition, at the Jefferson Davis Campus, a fully staffed Veterans Student Services Office helps retired military personnel pursuing higher education for civilian careers. Dr. Jonathan Woodward, vice president of the Jefferson Davis Campus, underscores the depth of the college’s commitment.
“In addition to operating a center on the Seabee Base, MGCCC provides a wide range of programs in a variety of formats to service members desiring to attain higher levels of education,” he said. “This includes preparing service members and their families for the transition from the military to civilian life, ensuring they have an industry-recognized skill set and proper credentials.”
Alrie Poillion, NCBC director, attributes the center’s success to ensuring “the students’ initial experiences with MGCCC are positive and focused on student learning and academic success.”
Looking toward the future, MGCCC will seek to expand the student population at the base, as well as increase course offerings. For more information about the center, contact Poillion at alrie.poillion@mgccc.edu or at 228.897.3795.
