Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra Guild.
“It is awarded each year to a current member who personifies the same qualities and represents the Guild’s highest regard and appreciation,” Joyce Jurik said. “Corky established this fund as an endowment to the music library of the orchestra and adds to it every year in honor of the current recipient.”
New officers were installed for the Gulf Coast Symphony Guild at a recent luncheon at Gulfport Yacht Club. Co-presidents Melanie Clark and Linda Sherman passed the gavel to Melanie Landrum and Joyce Jurik who will serve as co-presidents for the coming year.
Other new officers in addition to Landrum and Jurik, include Shirley Margaret Godsey, first vice president;
Claudia Lewis and Susan Pollard, co-second vice presidents; Denise Doyle, treasurer; Kim Howell, recording secretary; Ginny Hermetz, corresponding secretary; and Cherry Hall, parliamentarian.
The 2017 Jean Capps Award was presented to Charlotte Orr. The award was established by William (Corky) Capps in memory of Jean Capps for her dedication and devotion to the

GULFPORT HALL OF FAME
The Gulfport Sports Hall of Fame inducted John Adams, Beverly Coleman, Patrick Davis, Roman Grace, Jessie Harrison, Richard Harvey Sr., Eddie Ladner, John May, Ted Miller, Frank Pilate, Leon Regal, and Steve Smith in a recent ceremony.
at Jackson State and played with the Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills.
Ladner is considered one of the greatest prep basketball coaches in the state and won the state title at Harrison Central. May was a two- year high school basketball starter and four-year starter at South Alabama. Miller was a football and track standout at Gulfport High, quarterback at Tulane and All-SEC. Pilate was a five-year high school football starter, All Big 8 and All- SWAC at Alcorn State. Regal is a former football coach who won two state championships at Gulfport High. Smith quarterbacked Gulfport High to the 1977 Big 8 Conference championship.
The Gulfport Sports Hall of Fame is an all-volunteer board with a focus on supporting and honoring athletic participation.

was a girls’ basketball star at Harrison Central High. Davis was a track star
at Gulfport High and Mississippi State University. Grace was a four-year
football starter at MSU and All- SEC. Harrison lettered in
football, baseball and track at Gulfport High and signed with Mississippi State College. Harvey
was a three-year starter
