Les Masquees Krewe celebrates 95 years story by Lynn Lofton
Les Masquees is an organization rich in history and heritage.
It was founded in 1923 when the idea of creating a women’s carnival
organization started at a birthday party. In 2018, Les Masquees is still alive and well and celebrating its 95th anniversary.
Les Masquees officers for 2017- 18 are Captain, Gaye Winter; Lieutenant Captain, Karla Tye; Ball Chairpersons, Kathy Springer and Vickie Dalgo; Secretary, Katherine Swetman;
Treasurer, Tammy Sanders; Historian, Anna Harris; and Parliamentarian, Kelly Lucas.
The 95th Anniversary Ball will be
held February 2, 2018, at the Frank Gruich Center in Biloxi. The Queen, court and theme will remain a secret until the night of the ball.
“While at a birthday party for John Wood on Oct. 22, 1922, an idea for a carnival ball like
those Mrs. Woods and Shirley Stearns had attended in New Orleans was the topic of conversation,” Winter said, “and the women agreed that one should be started on the Gulf Coast.”
Les Masquees is the oldest private carnival krewe. From 75 charter members and $3 dues, the organization has stayed true to the wishes of the charter members. It is serious, fun, and devoted to family and friends.

Foundations in late 2014. It’s also why she traveled to New York City for special training with Freddie Zapp and continues to update that training as a certified bra fitter.
“We needed a place like this on the Coast for full-breasted women to
buy bras,” she said. “We use United Kingdom sizing and offer sizes ranging from A cup to K cup and bands from 28 inches to 56 inches.”
Logos estimates that 95 percent of women are wearing the wrong size bras. “The right size is more
periodically.”
She recommends appointments
for fittings and that 45 minutes be allowed for this service. Records of all customers’ sizes are maintained in the shop.
Logos has a word of caution for brides, “Come get fitted for foundation garments before your wedding gown
is altered. It can change the way your gown fits.”
Foundations also offers mastectomy bras, swimsuits, nursing bras, strapless bras and all sorts of specialty products.
