COASTNOTES
takes place July 20
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Biloxi Yacht Club will host the Sixth Annual Pink Paddle Race from Ocean Springs Yacht Club to the Biloxi Yacht Club to raise money for Pink Heart Funds. This year’s race will be on July 29. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Ocean Springs Yacht Club, followed by a mandatory skippers’ meeting at 9:30. The race begins at 10 a.m.
“It’s a great, growing and fun event,” said Mary Ann Clisby, one of the organizers. “In past races we raised enough money to purchase as many as 45 wigs for cancer patients who could not buy them or who have insufficient insurance.”
Pink Paddle chairperson Colby Cantrell said, “We are anticipating well over 100 kayaks and stand-up paddle boards and expect to raise more than $9,000 for this organization through entry fees alone.”
Pink Heart Funds is based in Long Beach and has
a mission to inspire, encourage and restore hope to persons affected by cancer and hair loss disorders. The organization provides wigs, breast prostheses, post-mastectomy bras and lymphedema
sleeves to women with cancer.

The 26th annual Steak & Stake dinner will be held July 20 at IP Resort Casino Spa with doors opening at 6 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast and highlights the positive impact on the lives of 4,400 participating young people.
“Come join us to enjoy food, fun, a silent auction and special guests,” event co-chairmen Angie Juzang and Romy Simpson said.
The Youth of the Year will be announced at the dinner. “This honor speaks to our best work,” Chief Executive Officer Keva Scott said. “The youth start competing inside their clubs. They write essays, must complete 200 hours of community service and have other criteria they have to meet.”
Other positive impacts of the organization include a 100 percent graduation rate among teenage club members; 23 percent of club members volunteer
in their communities at least once per year and 37 percent volunteer at least once per month; 92 percent of club members get at least 30 minutes of physical activity on five or more days per week; and club members have a zero percent pregnancy rate.
