Twenty years ago, a revolutionary approach to elder care was introduced by Methodist Senior Services on the Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo, Mississippi. The Green House® Home movement is based on the Eden principles of Dr. William Thomas. The concept seeks to deinstitutionalize nursing home life and give elders the experience of home while still receiving the care they need.
The Green House® Homes are a different kind of care designed as small homes with dedicated outdoor space, a great room or hearth area, an open-concept kitchen and each elder has a private room and bath for privacy. The homes are fully accessible and provide 24-hour staffing. Most importantly, the Green House® Homes create an environment for elders to continue to thrive and enjoy life.
It didn’t take long for this innovative concept to catch fire in the industry. Organizations from all over visited Tupelo to see first- hand the Traceway homes. Soon the Green House movement was popping up across the United States. Creating various styles of services, ranging from assisted living to full skilled nursing care, Green House® Homes offer comfortable settings. There are
now nearly 400 Green House® Homes operating throughout the world.
The Green House® Home at Seashore Retirement Community, offers memory support assisted living and is unlike any other offered in South Mississippi. The care and services are offered in a family-like atmosphere designed to make elders feel at home. For elders living with forgetfulness, the concept nurtures an environment in which individual needs are met because each person is deeply known and valued as creative, resourceful, and unique.
The Seashore Highland’s team is distinctive in that each member receives specialized training for working in the home. This training helps ensure that team members not only know
