The large round dining table of old oak is surrounded by smartly upholstered Parsons chairs. A marble topped island separates this area from the living room without impeding the flow. “We call it our hors d’oeuvre island,” Sara said.
The kitchen takes full advantage of the stunning view from its large windows. The center island has lights just under the countertop edge giving a soft glow at night. “We incorporated the coastal theme
here too,” Sara says, pointing out the knobs that were carefully selected to feature sea shells, starfish, etc.
This part of the home is complete with a “little den” just off the back entry. “It was supposed to be a laundry room, but it was way too pretty to be a laundry room,” Sara said.
Down the wide hall toward the master suite is a powder room that’s not the run-of-the-mill half bath.
It begins with more of those lovely antique doors and a ‘water closet’ sign in the European tradition. Inside, metallic gold paint and rubbed gold mirror and sconces
provide touches of glamour.
Wooden bi-fold doors open into the
master suite, which also has interior shutters for privacy. An antique door doing duty as a headboard
and a 1910 mirror from Charlie’s family are standouts. The bedroom’s cathedral ceiling is matched in the master bath that Sara refers to as her “mini chapel.”
The upstairs bedrooms are for
the couple’s children, Walker, a student at Millsaps College, and Kate, a junior at Our Lady Academy. Here and downstairs there are lots of interesting nooks and built-in shelves that display books, family
