A day in the life
Ever wonder what it's like to be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a hospital? Two Coast hospital CEOs, Gary Marchand of Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, and Randy Rogers of Garden Park Medical Center, say there is no such thing as a typical day but every day is a busy one.

A CPA, Marchand began
his Memorial career in 1991 as chief financial officer and was promoted to President/CEO in 2003. “There isn’t a typical day, but there are recurrent processes that must take place for the organization to run smoothly,” he says. “I meet often with the people who make sure Memorial continues to offer the best care possible to our community, such as physicians, nurses, ancillary and support staff, IT experts, administrative support on rules/regulations and billing and coding, among many others.”
Marchand also holds a
to his local position. “There are tasks that I perform each day such as rounding on patients to get their feedback or walking the property to make sure our cleanliness standards are being met but certainly nothing typical,” he said. “I may be in meetings
or on conference calls from sun up to sun down and each discussion is different. I prefer the days when I can interact with patients, physicians and nurses so that I don't lose touch with what is needed to better serve them.”
