LEFT: THE PORCH is a main feature of the Owl Lodge and there are plans to carve owls in the cedar tree that rises through the ceiling. THIS PAGE: LOTS OF WINDOWS help bathe the home in natural light and reveal the woodsy views. BOTTOM RIGHT: A BEAUTIFUL old shed sits among the trees.
Fulcher and Collom both like to cook and entertain in the spacious kitchen. The picture window over the sink frames the scene outside and a wooden zebra standing watch keeps the Out of Africa thing going. “I was a military brat and lived all over the world, which exposed me to a lot of exotic food,” Fulcher said.
Lots of windows bathe the area with natural light and reveal the woodsy views all around. Soft colors and a mix of antiques, reproductions and new furnishings contribute to the sit-and-enjoy-yourself atmosphere in this Out of Africa lodge. Of particular interest is an antique red leather love seat that came from the Pontchartrain Hotel in New Orleans. Oriental rugs add color and visual warmth.
A surprising thing for a house built in the 1950s is that there are three master bedroom suites. Each has a good size bedroom complete with walk-in closet and full bath. There’s a room with lots of red accents, another with blue and the third has green.
Fulcher and Collom own and operate New Orleans Private Investigations, doing contract work such as fraud and workman’s compensation investigations for national companies. Each of them has two grown children who they describe collectively as “great kids.”
