MARINA CANTINA
Now there are two locations of Marina Cantina, Gulfport and the recently-opened Marina Cantina 2 in Ocean Springs. Diners wanting great menu items in a laid-back, casual atmosphere have a choice between the two. You’re invited to come as you are and relax.
Coast residents and visitors love being on the water with its views and cooling breezes. Gulfport Marina Cantina is on Bayou Bernard and Ocean Springs is on Fort Bayou where boaters and jet skiers can pull right up and dock and then enjoy watching other boaters go by. The philosophy is that ‘Sunsets are Better with a Drink.’
The menu features outstanding seafood dishes, cold brews and specialty cocktails with an emphasis on fresh. “Both Marina Cantinas bring only the freshest food to your table,” says owner/chef Thomas Genin. “We don’t buy frozen food and we peel our shrimp, we don’t thaw them.”
There are many local favorites, including Royal Reds, oysters, tuna dip and fresh fish dishes. But to keep things interesting – and to tie in to the restaurant’s name – there are Mexican dishes such as street corn, roasted poblano queso, fresh guacamole, four kinds of nachos and plenty of tacos including shrimp and Mahi.
Both locations present live music every weekend featuring local, regional and national acts with multiple ticket options, says Ben Kaufman, manager of marketing, advertising, special events and entertainment. “Grab a seat and a cold drink and enjoy some good music as you watch the sun slowly set.”
Marina Cantina 2 can host special events of up to 30 people in the Pelican Room. Like its Gulfport counterpart, it also has outdoor seating, cabanas, fire pits and a band stage.
