DININGGUIDE filling a void

It all began with a glass of whiskey. Since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Coast in 2005, the void left in its wake was slowly beginning to fill. With so many of the local haunts gone, people were looking for a new place
to go.
“The entire western part of Pass
Christian was destroyed, as was much of the Coast,” said Thomas Genin, Whiskey Prime owner, and also owner of The Blind Tiger. “Since the storm, countless people asked me about where to stay and where to eat, and I knew we needed to do something.”
Genin and his business partner, Travis March, began discussing
the idea of opening a hotel in Pass Christian one evening over a glass of whiskey. “Whiskey was probably a part of the final decision, and we set to
work immediately,” said Genin. From that initial conversation, the name Hotel Whiskey was born.
The 11-room boutique hotel was constructed in downtown Pass Christian, and made waves as the first hotel to be opened in the area since the 1920s. The hotel is expertly designed, and features a combination hotel lobby and bar area. The hotel caters to a truly luxurious experience, from its well-appointed and spacious rooms
to its fine dining restaurant, Whiskey Prime.
The restaurant features USDA- certified prime steaks and fresh seafood that’s brought in straight from the Gulf, as well as an elegant bar that offers a wide variety of wines and, of course, whiskeys. Other menu items include grilled lamb “loli pops”
with balsamic syrup, jumbo lump crab cakes, and decadent desserts that change daily.
Whiskey Prime also offers a lunch menu that is served Friday through Sunday. Lunch options include a “Prime” ground steak burger served with house-made fries, a grilled beef and bleu cheese salad, seared yellow fin tuna with Asian seaweed salad and more.
“The success of the restaurant has been a pleasant surprise,” Genin said. “We’ve stayed consistently full since we opened.”
