Whitney Sartin, the owner of On A Roll Sushi in Long Beach, says “I just wanted to bring something different to Long Beach, a place where people would
feel at home.” And by any measure her dream, which started just 15 months ago, has come true. People flock to
the Jeff Davis Avenue restaurant and a large percentage of the crowd is repeat business.
On A Roll is small, spotlessly clean, and architecturally sharp with a nice modern edge, but at the same time remains warm and inviting. Sit at the sushi bar or take a table, and you’ll have a nice view of the busy street outside and friendly people to share
this Japanese inspired eatery.
The menu has everything on it you
might expect with some nice Southern twists. It’s doubtful any place in Japan offers a Cajun Gator Roll that has at its heart crispy tempura fried alligator. But not everything is so adventurous.
If you want to stay on the safe side, check out the chicken teriyaki, a bowl of miso soup, or a delicious California Roll. If you want to begin your experience with an appetizer, hands down you should try the fried calamari. This has got to be the best anywhere around. The calamari are perfectly fried, light and crispy, and come with
a delightfully spicy mayo. If you are
