Pink Heart Funds has their fourth Ribbon Walk on April 20 with registration at the
Long Beach Town Green beginning at 7 a.m. followed by the walk at 8 a.m. It gets its name from the American Cancer Society's ribbon designations for different types of cancer.
“We help anyone with any kind of cancer,” says Pink Heart Funds President Brenda Long. “We assist all cancer patients with wigs, prosthetics and other needs on a case-by-case basis. We've changed our logo to reflect that we're not just about breast cancer anymore.”
The Ribbon Walk will have a registered 5K run in addition to the walk. Extra features include a dog costume contest, raffle and a butterfly release at the conclusion.
The organization was started in 2005 by JoAn Nicely as a resource for patients with hair loss from breast cancer and alopecia. Long says the group has expanded their mission while continuing to offer support and advice.

Feed the Need

A local group of friends and volunteers are preparing for the 10th Annual Feed the Need benefit concert and fish fry, an annual fundraiser in downtown Ocean Springs. This year’s event will take place Sunday, April 7 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Government Street Grocery. All proceeds will benefit The Lord Is My Help Food Kitchen, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization which feeds over 3,300 meals each month to disadvantaged members of our community.
This year's all-star lineup includes the critically- acclaimed singer-songwriter Cary Hudson, along with Symone French, Ryan Baltrhop, Scott Chism & The Better Half, and Biloxi Bacon.
Feed the Need is a grassroots organization developed
by a group of friends in 2014 after concerns for the local community kitchen arose. “We are excited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Feed the Need along with the 40th Anniversary of The Lord Is My Help,” said Feed the Need Event Coordinator and Lord Is My Help Board Member Sarah Reese. “Feed the Need is about bringing our community together to raise awareness about hunger in our community. All proceeds
from the event go directly to
The Lord Is My Help, ensuring
all donations benefit our
community.”
For additional information about Feed the Need or sponsorships, please contact Sarah Reese at 228.860.7278 or feedtheneedos@gmail.com.
