Sophi’s Mediterranean has made it their mission to bring well-represented eastern culture to the Gulf Coast
with a menu that touches on recipes branching from Afghanistan to
the Isles of Greece. Located inside
an exquisitely decorated hookah lounge, Sophie’s offers authentic Mediterranean food, hookah, and a market that allows customers to bring staples of these dishes home.
There are a plethora of custom teas with syrups made in house available
to patrons. We sampled the Lebanese Tea, a black tea blended with black orange poke tea, with notes of orange blossom water and white sage. It blends into a deep flavor profile with a slight bitterness from the orange blossom to level the palate. We also enjoyed the
Moroccan tea, a mint infused green tea with crushed mint leaves, which was a refreshing delight that both cools and cleanses as it washes down.
If you are unfamiliar with Mediterranean flavor profiles, knowing where to start can seem intimidating. Sophi’s answers this by offering a sampler platter, available in personal and party sizes to help guide the way. The platter touts both an original
and red pepper and walnut hummus
to start you off. Baba ganoush, a Levantine appetizer also found on the sampler, features lemon, olive oil and tahini blended with mashed eggplant.
A large offering of feta and olives adorn the center of the dish, dolmades and a vegan chickpea falafel not far away. The real star here, however, is
