COAST NOTE
40 YEARS!
story by Alaysha Allen photos courtesy of Taco Sombrero
It all started in 1979 when two guys from Texas, Jimmie Johnson and Lynn Parkhill, got the idea to bring quality, made-in-house, quick-service Mexican food to the Gulf Coast. Just a year later, the rst Taco Sombrero opened its doors.
“We’re all about family values
and hiring dependable employees,” says Parkhill. These standards, and their loyal customers, are what have allowed Taco Sombrero and its franchise locations to ourish over the past 40 years.
These days, Taco Sombrero proudly serves the Coast with locations in Gulfport, Biloxi, and Ocean Springs. Parkhill is the face of the business, and can be seen in the restaurants every day making sure
that the quality of their food remains top-notch. In the background, Taco Sombrero’s future rests safely in the hands of a stellar management team, which includes General Manager Mike Partridge, a 35-year employee, as well as two of Parkhill’s sons, David Parkhill and Tyler Morgan.
To celebrate the anniversary, all locations will have a variety of specials and giveaways! Follow them on Facebook for future announcements.

GREETINGS
Biloxi, Mississippi, is known for being authentic and lively, and Downtown Biloxi in particular gives the Coast some spirit! The city recently welcomed a new attraction: the “Greetings from Biloxi” mural.
Artist Cali Rob used his creative insight to create the work of art that now graces the brick wall on Ohr Street, coming in at number 10 in
a series of murals. Rob used his knowledge of Biloxi and its most important aspects to make this mural look both new and old with ties to things that made the city of Biloxi what it is today.
Main Street Biloxi’s Corey Christy says, “The idea was to create an Instagram- worthy photo experience to
bring more attention to the mural program as a whole.”
The mural both adds to Biloxi’s scenery and gives visitors a family-friendly
way to get outside and enjoy the city. People can interact with the mural and reach thousands by posting it on any social media platform. In fact, the mural has already become a hotspot for local cruisers to show o their rides!
Mayor Gilich explains, “Looks old, brand new, way cool.” It’s a creative spot for creative minds.
