HEALTHY LIVING lifestyle change
Adding
YEARS TO HIS
LIFE
Love for family spurs young man’s weight loss
story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster Tphotos courtesy of Daniel Reid
hough there are often many factors that play into the decision to make a lifestyle change, love for one’s family can be one of the strongest.
Daniel Reid was just 28 years old when he began his weight loss journey. “I
hated having to take eight different medications
every day, especially at such a young age,” he said.
“Most importantly, I wanted to add more years to my
life so that I could be there for my wife and five children.”
Like many who have sought surgical weight loss, Reid struggled with his diet and exercise regime. “I loved working out but working out did not like me, and I wanted to be able
to exercise without worrying that my weight would cause me
to injure myself,” he said. “One of the tilting points for me
was stomach problems that stemmed from a poor diet. With
my life expectancy looking less optimistic every year and my weight and size increasing, I decided that enough was enough. I wanted to be there for my family as long as I could.”
