PLETHORA OF PLEATS,
FLOWING FABRICS
Small, open pleats and soft, flowing fabrics are the show-stopping stuff midi and maxi skirts and dresses are made of for Spring. There’s no better way to create a romantic vibe that to don a pleated knit skirt or dress that swirls and sways as you do. Paired with other airy and feminine fabrics like lace, tulle, or chiffon, today’s pleats offer a totally new and sophisticated take on the stitched knife and box pleats of bygone days. Right now, it’s all about graceful movement and smooth, light texture.
SHOW A LITTLE SKIN
With cold weather garments now neatly put away, it’s a good time to show a little skin, but only in small, strategically placed snippets. These take the form of edgy cut-outs and can appear anywhere and often this season. Off-shoulder or one-shoulder necklines, small openings at the back or midriff, asymmetrical hems and gathered ruching add feminine touches while suggesting – rather than shouting – sexy. And after all, suggestion is much more fun!
HEM LENGTHS
FOR EVERY MOOD AND OCCASION
Last season hailed midi and maxi lengths; this season retains them both
but also ushers in a familiar but totally revised character. The mini skirt has always had a place at the fashion trend table, but Spring ’22 sees it taking an upstage bow in the form of a suit. Think about a tailored skirt and jacket suit that rises to show more leg and is perhaps embellished with something fun like sparkly bling or even feathers at the hem.
Hold fast to those longer skirt lengths to depict your traditional softer side, but don’t be afraid of the trendy short lengths to show the world your sassy side. A word of caution... choose hem length wisely according to your individual body type and stay age appropriate. You can wear any trend well if you know how to put it together correctly and in good taste!
