Tips and Tricks for the Big Day
story by Kimberly C. Rasmussen photos courtesy of Pugh’s Floral Shop, Inc.
One of the most important aspects of any wedding celebration – and one of my favorites – is easily the flowers! What better way to express yourself as a couple and as a bride than through a gorgeous display of fresh florals.
Whether you’re a traditional bride, ultra-modern, or understated chic, the bride’s bouquet is by far one of the most important parts of any wedding day. The selection of that perfect combination of flowers may seem daunting at first, but the Gulf Coast offers a host of amazing floral shops ready to help even the most indecisive of brides. One of the longest- standing floral destinations is Pugh’s Floral Shop, Inc. in Pascagoula. Pugh’s has been spreading floral cheer for almost 80 years and I sat down with their team to get a little insight for those brides who need a little extra help “picking” just the right flowers.
Whether you have something specific
in mind or just a few preferred colors, sharing photos and ideas with your florist is a great way to ensure everyone is on the same floral page. One great way to get thousands of ideas at your fingertips is a simple internet search of bridal flowers. Arm yourself with a few favorite colors and maybe even a preferred flower or two and simply press search. Save the photos you like and over time, narrow them down to a few favorites that you can show to the florist.
Pugh’s advises any bride to set a certain budget just for flowers. Prioritize the
essential items such as the bride and bridesmaids’ bouquets, boutonnières,
and wedding party corsages. Secondary arrangements such as table centerpieces can use more creative elements such as lanterns or candles with floral accents
to help keep any budget on track. Often times, brides will opt to arrange certain floral elements themselves or with the help of family members as a way to keep costs down. Pugh’s advises budgeting enough to have your florist deliver and set up the necessary flowers and displays. This eliminates any last-minute stress that definitely isn’t needed on your big day.
Among many things, flowers signify new growth and new beginnings, just like any couple headed down the aisle of nuptial bliss. Listen to your florist when they give you advice about what might work and what is likely not the best option. Flowers are seasonal. Disappointment may set in if your favorite flower won’t be available when you walk down the aisle, but don’t worry, there’s something out there that’s equally perfect.
Most importantly, stay true to yourself when picking out your wedding day flowers. Fresh flowers bring joy and visual beauty to any wedding, but remember that they are just one aspect of the bigger picture. Whether your arrangements
are ravishing in white, or they mimic all
colors of the rainbow, be happy with your
choices and know that no matter what,
you will easily be the most beautiful bride
in the world! www.pughsfloralshop.com
