ROMANCE & WEDDING
BRIDAL JEWELRY GOES BOHO

While traditional bridal jewelry will never go out of style, it's taking on a less formal look this year. Vanessa Edwards of Pav & Broome Fine Jewelry in Gulfport says pieces are not perfectly matched.
“It's a bohemian village feel with different pieces worn together,” she said. “That's
the trend we're seeing. Yellow gold is really pushing back in, and brides want a personal look.”
An experienced fine jewelry representative, Edwards says layering is currently big with brides. “However, they want it to be delicate and in different styles,” she said. “They're also doing some color. Blue is strong – topaz in three or four shades, blue sapphire and aquamarine for fun.”
Fancy-shaped diamonds are the in thing, especially the elongated shape that gives a bigger look. “The band does not necessarily have to match,” Edwards said. “We're seeing the return of ring guards although
they're now called inserts.”
Stackable is a key word these days as in
stackable bands, necklaces and bracelets. “Stackable bands are huge, any shape, size or color of stone. You can mix the colors,” Edwards said. “The necklaces and bracelets are dainty so they can be layered and stacked. If you wear a big bracelet, there should be just one.”
Brides are also choosing more color in jewelry with their going-away attire. Cuff and hinged bracelets are popular. “Some brides will use their birthstone or that
of someone who's important to them,” Edwards said. “For the most part, wedding earrings are simple dangles and studs.”
The staff at Pav & Broome also sees a
lot of older couples come in for wedding jewelry. “Most are open for different things but not crazy different,” Edwards said. “They usually want a set and the classics are never out of style.”
