One does not become the “jerky king” overnight. Just ask Jeremy Martin, the owner of Martin’s Beef Jerky, who considers himself the Coast’s jerky king – at least on his social media pages. But how does one become a king of jerky? Martin said it all started on whim to make a better beef jerky product.
“My uncle and I used to hunt and fish a lot and we would take beef jerky with us,” Martin said. “We decided we could make our own beef jerky and we could make it better. And it is better. I don’t use any chemicals or preservatives in my jerky, and it’s about a 10-hour process to make it. We started by selling our jerky to one gas station. In 2017, I opened my first store in Long Beach, and in July we moved
to the location on Highway 49 and we have been busy since we opened the doors.”
Martin may soon be taking on
the titles of king of soul food,
king of fried ribs, king of seafood platters and king of plate lunches. While beef jerky was the catalyst
for Martin’s venture into the food business, Martin’s Beef Jerky is making and selling some of the
best food in South Mississippi. The restaurant offers Southern staples, such as a one-pound bacon double cheeseburger and a variety of fresh Gulf seafood po’boys, and some specialties, such as Boudin balls
and fried ribs. It also serves a daily plate lunch – $10 with a drink – and a variety of daily lunch specials, including shrimp and chicken
