CAFÉ 1310

There is a new place in town that
is turning heads. It’s a little bit old school, vintage you might say, but it
is also progressive. In fact, there is a whole lot of innovation going on at Café 1310. Check out the old Barq’s sign, the still functioning Dr. Pepper machine, and the open brick walls. The balcony provides just a hint of New Orleans, the patio with ivy covered walls begs for a moon lit night and a glass of wine. This place just exudes cool.
Now look at the menu! It’s not what you expected, is it? The po-boys are classic versions of the Coasts most famous sandwich, but these come not only dressed, but pressed, as all the old time po-boys used to be. Sure, you can have a messy roast beef po-boy, or a
fried shrimp, oyster or catfish version, but there is also a show stopping po-boy made with fried royal reds (the shrimp that tastes like lobster), fried green tomatoes, and remoulade sauce. Wow!
If you want to go healthy, check
out the veggie po-boy, its loaded with sautéed onions, mushrooms, red and green bell peppers, and sliced tomato, and crunchy pickles.
I am a bit of a po-boy snob, and you have got to get it right to impress me, and this place turned the trick with the famous crabmeat special. Invented at Rossetti’s in Biloxi many years ago, and then called the Van Cleave special. If you pair this crabmeat and cheese po- boy with a Barq’s root beer, then you have something profoundly special.
