Last July Teresa Wieck, a realtor at Coldwell Banker Alfonso Realty, married Jeff Martin of Illinois at MGM Park, home of the Biloxi Shuckers, making them the first couple to be married there. The wedding came as a surprise for the nearly 6,000 attendees, who were at the stadium to watch a baseball game and see the fireworks for the Shuckers’ Independence Day celebration.
What ended as the perfect celebration of love didn’t begin all that easily. Even the engagement didn’t go as planned.
“He wanted to ask me on Mar. 5, 2015,”
Wieck said. “It didn’t work out that way because his flight was delayed, and there were no flights out.” Instead, Martin proposed the next day.
Wieck didn’t want to plan a big wedding, insisting that they should do something simple, like an elopement. Martin had other ideas.
“I had plans,” he said. Still working a job in Illinois, Martin flew down for the Fourth of July weekend, wanting to surprise Wieck
