1316 GOVERNMENT
STREET
FOOD TRUCK SCENE
story and photos by Kimberly Rasmussen
Food truck, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
Located in an open lot o Government Street in downtown Ocean Springs, three aspiring businesses have come together to serve up some of the best local food you can nd. These
standalone food trucks, The Burger Box, The Scratch Kitchen and Captain Coconuts, are working in tandem to o er unique avors, all with distinct identities.
Food trucks themselves are not a new concept to the Coast. However, the stationary setup at 1316 Government Street has provided each enterprise with the ability to showcase a variety of cuisines to an excited and adoring fanbase, all within the con nes of a truck and approximately 60 square feet of pure culinary delight.
The Burger Box features an array of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and fries. At rst glance, one may think the Burger Box serves up your typical American classics, however these items are anything but basic.
Start o with an order of the house made fried pickles. Thicker and crunchier than your average fried pickle, these are absolutely addictive and paired best with a side of Burger Box Ranch. The Garlic Kobe burger, comprised of a third- pound, grass-fed Kobe beef patty, and the Mushroom burger with its caramelized onions and roasted mushrooms, were both top-notch.
Still, the Chicken Creamy Jalapeño sandwich dominates the menu. Served on a pretzel bun, a buttermilk fried chicken breast is slathered in house made jalapeño ranch making the perfect combination of avors.
The newest menu addition of parmesan tru e fries makes the best accompaniment and is an absolute delight for the senses. Owner Robin Palmas prides herself on customer service and convenience and is excited to bring something totally unique to the downtown Ocean Springs area. The Burger Box is absolutely remarkable.
While traveling through Denver, Colorado, local natives Billy Alexander, Jr. and his wife, Brittany Cruso, fell in love with the concept of a food truck. Their backgrounds in the food industry and their love of eclectic fare were the perfect marriage. From this love of food and desire to serve the community with something special, The Scratch Kitchen was born.
