Downtown Gulfport’s newest pizza and Italian restaurant really isn’t that new. C. A. Sarducci’s opened six years ago in a small strip mall on Cowan Lorraine Road, but a growing customer base brought the pizza place to a downtown spot near Fishbone Alley. Owned by Jim and Carol Ann Branson, Sarducci’s is serving up some of the best pizza in South Mississippi.
“We owned a couple of restaurants in Alabama, but we always wanted a pizza and Italian place,” Jim said. “So we opened C.A. Sarducci’s, which is named for Carol Ann and the popular Saturday Night Live character Father Guido Sarducci.”
Sarducci’s is open for lunch and dinner and offers daily lunch specials. One of the most famous and best-selling dishes is its namesake salad. The Sarducci’s salad is a bed of romaine with dried cranberries, bacon, Mandarin oranges, red onions, feta cheese and orange sesame ginger dressing. It is definitely worth the hype. It’s a flavor explosion that works on every level and comes as a half salad or whole. Be warned: it is a large salad either way you go. You will definitely have some to take home.
For an appetizer, we tried the garlic knots and they were outstanding. Joe takes his house-made pizza dough and twists it like a small pretzel and bakes
