LEISURE happy fall y’all
DIY
story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster photos by Mary Sunderman
You know it’s fall when everything is pumpkin — pumpkin candles, décor, and, of course, pumpkin spice lattes. For this month’s DIY project, we made some fun and funky pumpkin door stacks that are the perfect way to embrace the season. We styled our pumpkins
after the popular style of Mackenzie- Childs, but you can make yours in
whatever colors or theme you’d like. Happy fall, y’all!
What
YOU’LL NEED:
PUMPKIN STACKS
to Greet the Season
Step 1:
Decide on your patterns and get to painting. We chose to break up our white and black pumpkins by using a metallic gold one in the center. We
also added some colorful touches to the galvanized pots to tie them in with the pumpkins.
• 3 faux pumpkins (small, medium and large, double if you would like to make two stacks) • paint (we used acrylics and some metallic spray paint)
• paint brushes
• adhesive
• fall accents such as leaves and acorns
• base for the pumpkin stacks (we made ours with two galvanized pots per stack)
• (optional) clear coat to add shine or make the painted pumpkins weather-resistant
Step 2:
Step 3:
Step 4:
Remove the stems from the bottom and center pumpkins, and glue
them in a stack using
the adhesive. To remove the stems, carefully cut around the base of the stem where it meets the pumpkin and gently pull.
Once your pumpkin stack is glued together and dry, it’s time to add the fall accents. We chose some fall leaves and sparkly acorns, placing them between each pumpkin.
Place your completed stacks in the bases and set them near your doorway, or wherever else you’d like to add some fall decorations.
