Pretty impressive, right?
The menu is spread across the
walls when you walk into Darwell’s, along with the daily $10 specials (to which special attention should be paid). Take a quick look and you will plainly see that this place is jammed with classics such as smoked pork BBQ, BLTs, gumbo, burgers, and
lots more. It looks like a classic slice of Americana, but you are going to be knocked over by the big flavors Darwell’s is able to add to almost everything on the menu. In fact, “Big Flavors” was the title of the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives episode that featured Darwell’s.
You may notice several menu items that include yum-yum sauce. If you are a fan of all things creamy and rich, you better jump on this one! Yummy Momma is a good example. It’s a paneed chicken breast topped with this famous sauce. Angel Hair Yum Yum is another example with crab, shrimp, and mushrooms loaded in the sauce that’s served over the pasta.
But don’t bypass some of the more
mundane seeming offers. The pulled pork is made in-house with pork tenderloin. The burgers are world class, and even the PB&J is pretty darn good. A standout I really enjoyed was a side of Papa D’s beans and pork. It was good enough to stand alone and I wouldn’t mind ordering it as a main course anytime.
Also, check out the seared tuna that’s topped with a crab cake and lump crab and the supersize pulled pork sandwich.
Darwell’s has been
around for more than ten years, and one visit is enough to understand that longevity. Come for the great food, music every night, and I am sure you will notice a big personality or two around, right Papa D? This place is just plain fun.
