moves to Courthouse Plaza
story by Lynn Lofton
The Gulf Coast Walk4ALZ will be on November 12 at the Biloxi Town Green. Registration/check- in begins at 9 a.m., with opening ceremonies at 9:45 and the walk at 10.
“The walk is a 5K but it’s not timed so you can choose to walk however long you’d like,” said Kathryn Moran, community outreach coordinator with Alzheimer’s Mississippi. “There is no registration fee and you can register as a team or individual.”
Alzheimer’s Mississippi was formerly the Alzheimer’s Association Mississippi Chapter and separated earlier
this year. “The Alzheimer’s Association, which is based in Chicago, decided to merge all chapters into one centralized nonprofit,” Moran said. “Previously, all the chapters had
a certain degree of autonomy. Under the new structure, we believe our services to local families would decline. The decisions that would affect the people of Mississippi would be made in Chicago, rather than here as they have been in the past. Prior to this change, 40 percent of all dollars raised were sent to the national office in Chicago. Now that we are independent, 100 percent of all dollars donated to Alzheimer’s Mississippi will remain here in Mississippi.”
Register at alzms.org/walk, at 228.236.7211 or kmoran@alzms.org.

With a change of location, Gulfport’s Elle Boutique is also changing its look to put more emphasis on local shoppers and local merchandize. Founded in 2012 at Prime Outlet Mall, owner Angelle Hahn has doubled her shop’s space at the new location on Courthouse Road.
“We want to cater more to the local audience,” she said. “We have always carried a lot of locally made items from across the Gulf Coast region, but now we’ll have more. That includes jewelry, art and pottery.”
In addition to clothes and shoes, the boutique now has an enlarged gift selection with a coastal point of view. “We’re a full boutique,” Hahn said, “and we’re offering more lines to have something for everyone. We’re also changing our logo. We want more clean lines and a more mature look.”
She says she’s pleased to be a part of bringing back shopping on Courthouse Road, one of Gulfport’s busiest thoroughfares.
