Chef Sarah Cromier of Coast Restaurant has been around the world from the University of Rhode Island to Australia, and back, but she landed at Coast Restaurant five years ago, and has been a diminutive culinary hurricane
on the Gulf Coast’s culinary scene ever since.
The Coast Restaurant has always been a very cool place for casual dining, in an up-scale sports bar, local hang out sort of way. Think Cheers. Chef Sarah upped the odds recently by introducing a much more widely embracing menu; a menu that addresses the entire Gulf, from Cuba to Texas. It’s a dining concept that has never been tried before.
We stopped by to visit Chef Sarah recently and she wowed us with a seven course tasting menu that was nothing
short of sensational. We started with Biloxi Boudin Oysters, six large oyster shells stuffed with house made Cajun style boudin, fat, salty oysters, green onions, famous Delta comeback sauce, and a perfect spritz of lemon. Wow!
(Note that the reoccurring phrase here is going to be house made, or made from scratch. Chef Sarah doesn’t take short cuts, and everything that comes out of her kitchen is made on site.)
Next we sampled Crispy Crawfish Fritters, that featured a spicy pepper jelly; yes, house made of course, and another round of comeback sauce, finished with a delightful garnish of cilantro.
The third offering was a big leap forward, in what normally would be served last, but a sweet respite was
ABOVE: MOUTHWATERING Crawfish Flatbread. RIGHT: THE Crispy Crawfish Fritters with spicy pepper jelly.
