The Walter Anderson Museum of Art will be open to welcome visitors during the 42nd Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival though it will look a bit different than in previous years.
“We did some brainstorming and have come up some ways that we will be organized the weekend to provide for the safety of staff, visitors and participants,” said Mattie Codling, director of collections and exhibitions.
These safe practices include:
• The museum will continue to
operate at a reduced capacity. Monitors will be at the front doors to ensure that guests do not exceed a 25 percent capacity within the galleries. Face masks are mandatory for admission.
• There will be monitors within the galleries that will be completing routine cleaning of spaces and encouraging distancing and face mask wearing.
• A booth will be set up for sales
outside the museum to reduce the
amount of people in the gift shop. • The Young At Art show will be
moved to the parking lot to the north of the museum for more space between tables. To make this happen, the youth show and sale has been expanded to both days of the festival. “We can have a limit of 12 for each day, so they have the option of setting up either on Saturday or on Sunday,” Codling said.
The museum exhibits during the festival will include “Bloodlines Matt Stebly,” and “Written in Sand, Plein Air Painters of Horn Island.”
“We are having to institute a lot of different rules, but that’s to keep everyone safe,” Codling said. “We are looking forward to the festival.”
The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival isn’t just for adults. The Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce-Main Street-Tourism Bureau has partnered with the Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA) for a sixth year to offer the Young at Art opportunity.
The goal of the program is
to create a place in the festival where kids have a chance to showcase and sell their art. This gives them an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be an artist at the festival. Youths ages 8 through 18 are invited to set up on the front lawn of WAMA.
