About 10 years
ago, the Ocean
Springs Chamber
of Commerce-
Main Street-
Tourism Bureau teamed up
with Blue Moon to be part of the
unique Blue Moon Art Project. Since
then, Mississippi artists are encouraged each year to craft a piece of art, in the form of a painting, depicting their interpretation of Blue Moon.
A panel of jurists examine each entry prior to the November festival, selecting the winner and then the top 10. The top 10 are displayed throughout the two day festival where people have the opportunity to vote on their favorite.
The winner receives a $2,000 cash prize
and the people’s favorite selected during the festival
gets $500.
The 2019 winner was
Catherine Ann Davis, with “Mississippi, Y’all!” Her art of a
stylish woman in a straw hat surrounded by Mississippi images will be featured on the 2020 festival cups and posters. Starkville residents Catherine Ann and her husband, Parker, founded “Hi Yall Made in the South” in 2012 featuring custom artwork inspired by people, places and traditions of
the region. Her art lends itself to hand printed pillows, apparel, prints and custom paintings.
