DIAMONDHEAD COUNTRY CLUB
story and photos by Julian Brunt
Nothing matches that country club feel. You know what I mean, it’s classy, a bit casual, but has that comfortable feel that only the combination of a fireplace and wall-to-wall picture glass windows looking out over a manicured golf course can achieve. And when
you add to that mix a chef like Chef Bryan Koonce, with more than 20 years of experience cooking exclusively in country clubs, then the Dining Room
at the Diamondhead Country Club becomes a very special place indeed.
If you’re thinking that country clubs are stuffy places where members turn up their noses at guests, then you have got this place all wrong! This club is open to everyone for dining, golf and tennis, and you can expect a warm and friendly welcome. It’s just minutes off Interstate 10 and it’s a lovely drive
there along winding roads and beautiful homes.
The Dining Room’s menu has just
the right feel to it, with more than 30 offerings. There are five starters to choose from, all good enough to make a meal. In fact, more and more people are forgoing a large entrée for a selection
of smaller plates. The Ahi Asian Tuna gets top marks for appetizers, with eight perfectly seared slices of tuna
on top of a salad with a peanut honey vinaigrette. The Fried Green Tomato Stacker is another amazing choice. Fried green tomatoes with pesto cream cheese and lump crab meat is a stunning combination, and in fact, the portion size is so generous all you have to do
is add a glass of wine, and you have a perfect meal for a hungry person.
