HOME easy going
Across the foyer is the formal dining room where Brenda has put her decorating talents to good use. Even the hallway was given a dose of personality with cypress placed horizontally on the walls, an unusual grandfather clock, portraits of the couples’ parents (both dads served in WW II) and quirky accessories.
The stunning kitchen and family room are picture perfect and have a commanding view of the back porch and the water beyond. ‘Quick Silver’ by Sherwin Williams is used on these walls. The island is painted a jaunty blue, cabinets are white and quartzite covers all counter tops. “Blue and white never go out of style,” Brenda says. “It’s easy to live with.”
The family room ceiling has white beams and an antique cypress beam is used as a mantle over the fireplace. Again, there’s a lot of blue and white with coastal accents but a few doses of salmon color keep it fresh.
Sherwin Williams’ ‘window pane’ is used on walls in the master bedroom where Brenda says the changing light gives it various green and blue tones. The room boasts lots of windows, prompting Brenda to say, “We wake up to a great view.”
The large back porch also has a great view. Comfort reigns here with weather-resistant wicker furniture, a fire pit, large-screen TV and outdoor kitchen. A whimsical driftwood fountain keeps the area from looking too serious.
The Wilburns share their home with two Maltese dogs, Mollie and Taz, and enjoy visits from their sons, Van and Reiss, and three grandchildren.
You can bet they’ll be out cruisin’ during the week of October 1-8 in Mike’s rebuilt 1969 Pontiac GTO.
Brenda refers to the car as “the other woman” but Mike counters, “That’s the kind of car we dated in and had when we were newly weds.”
NOSTALGIC and family pieces illustrate the Wilburns’ love of family and history.
