It’s always a good sign when you walk into a restaurant and it’s full of men and women in uniform. On the Coast, military members are sort of the unofficial sign of a good restaurant – they know where to find the best eats around.
While R & C Korean Restaurant is located just outside the Pass Road gate of Keesler Air Force Base, it’s not just the proximity that draws in its diners. The restaurant is small, but reads as comfortable, casual and welcoming. Traditional Korean clothing is framed on the far wall, and posters for Korean beers can be seen throughout.
Owners Chil Moon and Richard Moon Jr. have created the perfect place for anyone looking to experience true Korean fare for the first time.
At first glance, the menu can be a
bit overwhelming. It’s not written in Hangul, the Korean alphabet, but the
Korean words are spelled out using the English alphabet. While the letters are familiar, the words probably aren’t to most people. But that’s okay, because R & C has graciously written out descriptions of each dish.
I first visited R & C with my best friend, Rachel, a Korean culture enthusiast and huge K-pop fan (for the uninitiated, K-pop is simply Korean pop music). Wanting to try out some real deal Korean food, she found R & C on Google and we were off.
We reviewed the food on our second visit together, though I couldn’t help but reorder the same thing I had gotten the last time – Bul Go Gi, which is sauteed sliced beef marinated in mild or spicy seasonings. Ordered either way, the sauce has a noticeable sweetness to it, which I loved.
Customization is one of the best things about this restaurant. Don’t
