You must have driven by a Fayard’s gas station dozens of times, if not more. There are four locations on the Coast and they have been around since 1971. With even a quick glance you can see they are convenience stores as well, but did you know that Fayard’s is famous for serving hearty breakfasts and killer good po-boys? Word is that people drive over from New Orleans just for
a Fayard’s po-boy, and those folks are sure picky when it comes to this famous sandwich that was invented in their city. That is quite an endorsement.
Walk in and perhaps the first thing you will see is fried chicken in a hot case. That’s not much of a surprise; lots of convenience stores have fried chicken. No, wait, there are egg rolls as well.
What are the funny round things? Oh, those are deep fried boudin balls. If you come early enough, you will also see a case loaded with breakfast specialties.
So, you do make it early enough for breakfast, what might you expect to find? Biscuits and gravy? You bet, but
a lot more than that. In fact, you can have that house made biscuit stuffed with a combination of fifteen choices: eggs, sausage, ham, smoked sausage, pork chop, steak, cheese, bacon, and a few other things. You can also get a side of grits or hash browns, or delicious beignets, and there is a selection of toaster sandwiches.
Having said all of that, what Fayard’s is really known for are their po-boys. This is another long list, but let me just
