3. LAPOINTE-KREBS HOUSE
With construction starting in 1757, the LaPointe-Krebs House is the oldest surviving structure in Mississippi. Originally constructed during the French colonial period and later occupied under British and Spanish rule, the preserved home reflects the European influences that shaped the Mississippi Gulf Coast and today serves as a museum and educational site in Pascagoula.
  HONORING FREEDOM, UNITY &
THE AMERICAN + COASTAL SPIRIT
As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Coastal Mississippi stands as a living timeline of our nation’s story. Long before the United States declared independence in 1776, explorers, settlers, freedom seekers, entrepreneurs and artists were shaping life along these shores. From colonial forts to cultural landmarks, each site tells a chapter of resilience, community, and evolution.
With historic photos from “then” and vibrant images of “now,” we’re reflecting on six iconic locations and showing how history continues to live, breathe, and inspire today.
1. 100 MEN HALL
Built in 1922 by the One Hundred Members’ Debating Benevolent Association, 100 Men Hall in Bay St. Louis became a cornerstone of community life during segregation and later gained recognition as a stop on the historic “Chitlin’ Circuit.” Today, 100 Men Hall operates as a cultural arts center and performance venue, preserving African American heritage on the Coast.

2. FORT MAUREPAS PARK
In 1699, French explorers Pierre Le Moyne D’Iberville and Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville established Fort Maurepas near present-day Ocean Springs, marking the first French settlement in what would become Mississippi. Although the original fort no longer stands today, Fort Maurepas Park honors that legacy.
