1. BARRIER ISLANDS
Coastal Mississippi is home to six Barrier Islands: Cat, Ship, Deer, Horn, Round, and Petit Bois. Cat Island was named by Spanish explorers who mistook raccoons for feline friends. The US Army Signal Corps used Cat Island to train dogs during WWII.
Coastal Tips: Visit the Barrier Islands by chartering a fishing boat or hitching a ride on Gulf Island Excursions.

 2. BARQ’S ROOT BEER
Barq's Root Beer was invented in Biloxi in 1898 by Edward Charles Edmond Barq. The Barq’s Building is still located in the Downtown Historic District and is being transformed into a bed and breakfast, slated to open this summer.
Coastal Tips: Pair a Barq’s Root Beer with a tasty po’boy for a classic Coastal cuisine.
3. THE JULEP ROOM
Frequented by legends such as Elvis Presley and Billie Holiday, the Julep Room is a true-blue lounge with storied walls and a colorful past. It is known that Elvis would come regularly and sit in the corner booth in the back.
4. LYNN MEADOWS DISCOVERY CENTER
Located in the renovated Mississippi City Elementary School, which was constructed in 1915, Lynn Meadows Discovery Center offers 15,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space and seven and a half acres of outdoor play space. In 2016, the center was awarded the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the highest honor a museum can
