MAURICE HAYNES SUPPORTS NIKE COLLABORATION BY HELPING THE LESS FORTUNATE
Maurice Haynes, who earned a bach- elor’s degree in 2008 and a master’s degree in 2009 from Alcorn, recently supported Nike’s collaboration with ex NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, by purchasing Nike products for the less fortunate and random people in Hat- tiesburg, Mississippi.
MELANIE MCREYNOLDS SELECTED AS HANNA GRAY FELLOW, AWARDED $1.4M TO RESEARCH AGING
Melanie McReynolds, a Princeton Uni- versity postdoctoral biochemistry re- searcher who graduated from Alcorn in 2009, was recently selected by the How- ard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) as one of 15 Hanna Gray Fellows. As part of her selection, McReynolds was awarded $1.4 million in funding over the next eight years from HHMI.
DR. DANITA POTTER PROMOTED TO FULL PROFESSOR WITH TENURE AT NORTHWESTERN STATE UNIVERSITY IN LOUISIANA
Dr. Danita Potter, who earned a master’s degree in nursing from Alcorn in 2005 was promoted to full professor and tenured in the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health at Northwestern State University in Louisiana.

Alcorn State University’s 2018 Homecoming was one to be remembered for the 1968 Golden Girls. The ladies celebrat- ed their 50th anniversary during Homecoming weekend with a celebration banquet Friday, Oct. 5 in the Dr. Clinton Bristow, Jr. Dining Hall Gold Room. Golden Girls from mul- tiple eras gathered to share their appreciation for the 1968 class for starting the legacy.

Kanika Welch, a Jackson, Mississippi native who earned a bachelor’s degree from Alcorn in 2008 recently complet- ed a two-year Peace Corps Service as a teacher trainee in the West African country of Gambia.
