ALCORN
Excellence in the Year of the Brave
When the new year 2018 kicked o , many Alcorn faithful had a funny yet strong feeling that this would indeed be a special year. One indicator of just how successful the year would be was the announcement from the Pantone Color Institute, a leading authori- ty on color and printing in the graphic arts industry, declaring Ultra Violet the “Color of the Year 2018.”
e “dramatically provocative and thoughtful pur- ple shade” was chosen as the year’s color because it communicates a rich and powerful originality, inven- tiveness, and vision. ese core characteristics of the
purple family are intrinsic to the Alcorn community. From our historic origin as the rst public HBCU land-grant in the nation to the considerable contributions Alcor- nites are making in every eld of endeavor, excellence abounds “beneath the shade of giant trees.”
For Alcorn, 2018 proved to be a year of new and continued excellence that was high- lighted by our talented scholars, champions, and other high-level achievements. We took the Pantone admonition to heart and decreed 2018 the “Year of the Brave,” branding all of our great success throughout the year with the social media hashtag #YearOf eBrave.
is edition brings into focus some of the great accomplishments Alcorn enjoyed in 2018. From the appointment of the university president to the position of IHL com- missioner to winning the SWAC Championship at home in Lorman, Alcorn had a groundbreaking year.
Our strong rankings with numerous reputable organizations were enhanced. Faculty and student scholars excelled in the classroom and in various academic and research e orts. Beloved alumni inspired with their achievements from entertainment to educa- tion. All of this and more highlight a year to be remembered and celebrated.
With the achievements witnessed, there is no doubt 2018 was the Year of the Brave and a year worth showcasing the excellence all around Alcorn.
As always, we hope you will continue to stay in touch and share your experiences and stories of Alcorn excellence with us at news@alcorn.edu.
Continue being bold. Continue being Brave. Enjoy Alcorn.
