  Gaming revenues up
nationwide, but state
numbers decrease
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nationwide commercial gaming revenue totaled $14.81 billion in Q2 2022, according to the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker. The total sets a new quarterly record for the industry, beating Q4 2021 by 3.3 percent.
 Twenty-two of the
31 commercial gaming jurisdictions operating during the same period last year experienced revenue increases in Q2 2022. Nine states reported all-time quarterly highs: Arkansas, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon and Pennsylvania.

Breaking down Mississippi casino gross gaming revenues, Mississippi River casinos experienced a 19.8% decrease in Q2 2022 vs Q2 2021, going from $309,794,533 to $248,474,597. Gulf Coast casinos saw revenue dip 8.9% for Q2 2022 year-over-year, going from $443,728,323 to $407,817,329. For the first half of 2022, Gulf Coast casinos were off less than 1% year-over-year while river casinos were down 9.3%.
Looking at gaming nationally, with $29.16 billion generated through the first half of the year — a nearly 18 percent year-over-year increase — 2022 is on pace to set a new annual record for commercial gaming revenue for the second consecutive year.
“Q2’s results mark a 16-month period of gains for commercial gaming,” said AGA President and CEO Bill Miller. “With increasingly difficult year-over-year comparisons, our strength through the first half of 2022 reflects sustained consumer demand for legal options as well as gaming’s record popularity.”
Mississippi was one of the
nine states to experience a
revenue decrease in Q2 2022. The $656,291,926 million in casino gross gaming revenues reported by the Mississippi Department of Revenue in Q2 was 12.6% lower than the $753,522,856 in Q2 2021. Mississippi casino revenue was down 4.1% for the first half of 2022 year-over-year based on revenue reported by the MDR.
