TUNICA — The Taste of Hollywood
food hall opened recently at Hollywood Casino Tunica. The food hall is a fresh new dining concept for Tunica that features a diverse array of culinary specialties. Taste of Hollywood offers a communal space for diners to explore various cuisines, made to order and served fresh.
Featured at Taste of Hollywood are menus for Southern, Wok (Asian), BYOB (Bring Your Own Bowl), and Slice (pizza). There are also desserts at Sweet Things. The food hall is welcome news for guests and players looking for more dining options at Hollywood. Located in the former Epic Buffet space, it is open Sunday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to midnight.
Food can be ordered for dine-in or carry out. An order station with the menus posted overhead is located at the entrance, which is where orders are placed and food is purchased. Comp dollars are welcome.
The PENN Play app can also be used to conveniently order online.
After stepping past the order area, one can see that there is plenty of seating between the entrance and the counters in front of the food prep areas. Diners simply take their order slips to the corresponding counter in the food prep area and turn in their order, keeping one of the slips with the order number and waiting in the dining area, which is within earshot, for their number to be called. The individual overhead menus feature an impressive number of selections and can also be viewed online at hollywoodcasinotunica.com.
Southern entrees include fried chicken, hamburger steak, chicken fried steak, fried pork chop, fresh fried catfish, chicken dumplings, half-a-slab of ribs, a beef brisket platter, and chicken wings. Soups include gumbo and chili. There is also a Taste of Hollywood Burger (quarter or half pounder), as well as lots of sides and a good selection of bottled drinks.
The Southern menu also features a wealth of breakfast entrees, including pancakes, a breakfast platter, country ham and eggs, a western omelet, a vegetable omelet, and even a build-your-own omelet. Steak and eggs, and a fruit bowl are also on the menu. Sides include hash browns, toast, an extra egg, bacon, sausage, pancakes, extra cheese, and extra vegetables.
I stopped by to check out The Taste of Hollywood the day it opened. Southern was my choice on this day. I ordered the fried catfish with greens and fried okra. A generous portion of golden fried catfish was a welcome sight. Serving catfish made to order ensured it was hot and fresh. The seasoning and the care in preparation ensured it was delicious. The greens exemplified country cooking. Having grown up in this region, they reminded me of what grandma used to make – high praise. And the okra was golden and crispy as well, a perfect side for catfish.
