CONCLUSION
The scholarship team at TMCF has demonstrated remarkable progress and impact throughout the academic year 2024–2025, significantly contributing to the organization’s strategic pillars and exceeding national benchmarks in several key areas. Our dedication to innovation, equity and student-centered support has yielded outstanding results, positioning TMCF as a national leader in scholarship administration.
ALIGNMENT WITH TMCF STRATEGIC PILLARS & DEMONSTRABLE IMPACT
The scholarship team’s initiatives are deeply woven into the fabric of TMCF’s strategic pillars:
• Scholarshipsandstudentinvestments:This pillar is directly advanced through the Outreach and Engagement unit, which saw a 22% increase in student profiles (from 52,448 to 64,398) and
a 52.9% improvement in application completion rates (from 29.6% to 82.4% with the new AdmissionPros platform). A total of 2,718 students were awarded scholarships, an increase of 14%, with $21.78 million disbursed, demonstrating a robust commitment to financial access. The intentional focus on degree completion saw a 5% increase in aid for seniors, comprising 32% of all disbursed funds.
• Programmaticinnovationandresources: TMCF’s thought leadership, as evidenced by three selected presentations at the NSPA conference, directly addresses mitigating bias and fostering inclusive scholarship models. The Medtronic Foundation virtual immersion further upskilled over 100 scholars in areas like AI and career pathways. The Cal & Annette Johnson Scholarship provided $15,000 each to 12 HBCC students, creating equitable access for often-overlooked institutions. Notably, 36% of scholarships were granted to first-generation students, significantly exceeding the HBCU sector benchmark of 21.6%.
• Talent discovery and development: Strategic partnerships, such as with the United Health Foundation (supporting 75 scholars, up 25%), and the Medtronic Foundation, actively connect scholars with industry exposure and professional networks, creating direct pathways to careers in critical sectors like healthcare and technology.
• Institutional capacity building: The Cal & Annette Johnson Scholarship Program specifically targets and strengthens HBCCs,
broadening student pipelines and reinforcing TMCF’s commitment to institutional equity. The adoption of AdmissionPros as a new scholarship platform streamlines operations, allowing TMCF to scale scholarship initiatives more efficiently and support member institutions better.
EXCEEDING NATIONAL BENCHMARKS & OUTCOMES
TMCF’s scholarship efforts consistently surpass national averages, underscoring its leadership in promoting equity and access:
• First-Generation Students: With 36% of scholarships awarded to first-generation students, TMCF significantly exceeds the 21.6% benchmark for HBCUs, demonstrating strong progress towards the national average for all U.S. college students (50%).
• STEM Investment: Nearly half of TMCF scholars (26.4% in science, 10% in engineering, 8% in technology ) are in STEM fields, a substantial investment that far exceeds the national average of Black students earning 7% of all STEM bachelor’s degrees. This reinforces TMCF’s critical role in diversifying the STEM workforce.
• AcademicExcellence:TMCFscholarship recipients boast an average GPA of 3.51, well above the U.S. undergraduate average of 3.15.
• Diversity and Inclusivity: The 11.7% increase in U.S. citizen recipients alongside a dramatic rise from one to 29 international student awards and an 8.6% increase in permanent resident recipients showcases a broadening global reach while maintaining robust domestic support. The
16.8% increase in male recipients also indicates positive movement towards more balanced gender representation within the program.
TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION & ENGAGEMENT
The strategic investment in technology and innovation has revolutionized student access and engagement. The expansion of the CampusONE Metaverse platform offers immersive, equitable and accessible experiences, bridging geographic barriers. The partnership with AdmissionPros has streamlined processes, resulting in the remarkable 52.9% improvement in application completion rates as of August 2025 (47,495 students with database profiles, 82.4% completed applications).
