TMCF MEMBER SCHOOLS Support for our member schools continued to thrive in 2023, directly or through collaborative initiatives.
A key event this year was the collaboration of U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack to send letters to 16 governors highlighting the greater than $12 billion disparity in funding between the historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) land-grant institutions and their non-HBCU land-Grant peers in those same states. TMCF advocated for this action behind the scenes leading up to the distribution of letters.
TMCF also increased its membership this year, adding six public historically Black community colleges to its member schools. Through advocacy and increased membership, TMCF has deepened its impact and helped raise awareness of disproportionate funding.
