Welcome to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s 38th Anniversary Gala. We’re thrilled to have you join us in the nation’s capital as we celebrate our outstanding students, member schools, and the people and organizations who are making a huge difference in their lives.
First and foremost, I must express gratitude to Gary B. Bettman, the host committee chair and longtime member of our Board of Directors, as well as Toni Townes-Whitley and Jeffrey J. Hurd, co-chairs, on behalf of our founder, board and members of TMCF. Thanks to their efforts, we can gather tonight to honor remarkable individuals and organizations.
We’re honored to recognize Blue Meridian Partners, The Leonsis Family Foundation and Monumental Sports & Entertainment tonight. Their significant accomplishments and contributions to society have helped permanently improve the lives of students across the country. Please join me in congratulating these organizations and thanking them for their contributions.
Your presence here underscores the importance of investing in HBCUs, PBIs and HBCCs and their students. These institutions have been historically underfunded by billions of dollars over the last three decades. Despite that, we also know these institutions improve student outcomes by a larger margin than many schools. While what has been achieved with less is admirable, imagine what could be achieved if they had access to the resources they deserve.
