This year marks a special milestone for Luckies Furniture as we celebrate 70 years of serving the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Since 1954, we have been more than just a furniture store; we have been a part of the community’s heartbeat, driven by a commitment to family values and exceptional service.
There are many efforts and relationships that make family owned and operated businesses in our community, like us, who we are today. It’s natural to want to focus only on the good times, but we must embrace every aspect of our growth, both the high points and lows.
Like any other business, family or not, we face challenges. However, what is important is how quickly we overcome those challenges to provide an enjoyable work environment for our employees, and a great shopping experience for our customers.
Luckies’ success has been built upon combined efforts of leadership, starting with the original founding values and vision of Alfred and Helen Elmore, a hard-working team, community support, and long-term client relationships based on trust and respect.
Our story began with Alfred Elmore, whose love for electronics led him to establish a business while stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. With Helen Elmore by his side, the business evolved from selling electronics and appliances to offering furniture, with Helen becoming the beloved face of the business. Alfred and Helen made a significant impact both in their business and in their community.
By expanding their business from electronics and appliances to include furniture, they not only broadened their offerings but also established a strong, personal connection with their customers through Helen’s active community involvement. This combination of innovation and engagement helped solidify their legacy, which continues through their children and
grandchildren.
As we reflect on the past 70 years, we embrace every aspect
of our journey, celebrating both the successes and the lessons learned along the way. Here’s to many more years of serving our community with the same passion and dedication that has brought us this far.
