Coastal Resilience
Adaptive Infrastructure for Mississippi Living Shoreline
story by Katie Grace Walshe
Two Gulf Coast companies—Natrx, a Louisiana-based adaptive infrastructure firm, and Danos, an energy services provider—are launching their first living shoreline project in Mississippi on the Pearl River.
In partnership with Wildlife Mississippi and funded by the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund, the project uses nature-based solutions to reduce shoreline erosion, restore river systems, and promote habitat biodiversity.
“This project represents the kind of forward-thinking coastal solutions we aim to support,” said Ricky Flynt, the fund’s director.
The shoreline features 119 ExoForms—modular, low- impact infrastructure units made by Natrx and nicknamed “Cajun Coral.” Installed by Danos, the ExoForms trap
silt and support native vegetation, creating a classic living shoreline.
“This marks a major milestone for Natrx as our first Mississippi project,” said Natrx CEO Leonard Nelson. “Collaborative efforts like Logtown are vital to Gulf
Coast restoration,” said Danos Ventures CEO Eric Danos. The Logtown Living Shoreline Project further illustrates
the power of cross-state environmental partnerships, showcasing the economic advantages from
deploying Louisiana-made coastal technologies throughout the Gulf
States region.
